Last of the July canning

Today I made “Sundried Tomato Chutney” and “Barbecue Relish” from Small-Batch Preserving and “Feisty Red Pepper Ketchup” from Well Preserved.  All promise to be quite tasty!

Saturday canning

It’s July so that means canning time is in full swing!

Today was some pickles from our cucumbers and “Piquant Tomato Sauce” from Small-Batch Preserving. From what I tasted before I cleaned the pot, this may be our new ketchup replacement!

A day’s harvest

Zinnias

I don’t plant a whole lot of purely decorative plants, but I do love zinnias!

Figs!

Figs!  I have figs!

OK, it’s not a very clear picture, but that’s one of the several figs on my Chicago Hardy fig tree (it’s about 3 feet tall). I’ve tried to grow figs before with limited luck. Not this time!

Now, hopefully they’ll ripen before it gets too cold!

Garden update

The garden grows apace.

I'm going to be canning a LOT of tomatoes.

Hopefully I'll also be making a lot of pickles from the cucumbers!

First tomato

We have our first tomato!

Yum!

It’s a Silvery Fir tomato, and I haven’t tasted it yet.  It’s resting on the windowsill for tomorrow’s dinner!

Canning time!

I’ve been inspired to can this weekend.

Strawberry blackberry sauce

Just in case anyone thinks that everything goes according to plan for me, that strawberry blackberry sauce was supposed to be jam, but I couldn’t get it hot enough to jell.  Oh well.  It will still taste good!
